Name: Rachel Zaruba

Role in Education: School Counselor

Additional Roles or Responsibilities: PBIS Tier 2&3 Facilitator, Kindness Krew Co-Leader, PBIS District Leadership Team Lead, PLC for Counselors

How long have you been in education? I was an associate for two years, a counseling secretary for one and have been a counselor for eight years.

What is your favorite thing about being an educator? I love working with kids because they are joyful, passionate, and wonderfully weird. Their humor and unique ways of thinking make me laugh while I get to watch them learn and grow.

What are you looking forward to this school year and/or favorite memory from this school year?

I have really been working on conflict resolution and calm down strategies with my students. It is AWESOME to see my students using them in real time. It brings me a lot of joy seeing my students find confidence and success with skills they have learned.

Favorite Corda Teacher Store event or memory? The Teacher Store always comes to Marion Independent School District's Summer Institute! It’s great to start the year with essentials!

All-time favorite school supply item? Sticky notes. I live off sticky notes!

What are your hobbies outside of education? I am a big fan of the outdoors! My kids and I spend as much time as we can outside. I also like to read!
